Learn more about the BDSA

Updated: Nov 18, 2023

Press Release - 04/10/2020

Following the successful launch of the British DanceSport Association (BDSA) yesterday, we would like to give a little more information on the status and objectives of the organisation.

Status

The BDSA recognises that sport is self-regulatory and that we are offering Ballroom and Latin American dance participants the choice to become a member of an organisation that has the below core objectives at its centre.

Our organisation works within the UK Sport Code for Good Governance and aims to offer transparent governance to our DanceSport members.

Objective

Naturally the organisation aspires to represent its members fairly across the dance industry and provide choice for those within the dance community across the British Isles:

Our core objectives are:

  1. To be transparent and trustworthy

  2. Deliver fair competition

  3. Be a democratic organisation that acts on member requirements

  4. Independent and unbiased governance

  5. Support to provide a safe environment

  6. Diverse and inclusive for all

  7. Provision of support to clubs and members

  8. Pathway to elite competition

To demonstrate how we listen and react, over the past 24 hours, we have received unprecedented calls asking us to further represent dancers in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as the Isle of Man. We are pleased to confirm that now not only is membership open to the whole of Great Britain, but that regional committees have been formed for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

In addition to this, for further clarification, Sequence and Classical Sequence, Wheelchair, Formation, Showdance, New Vogue, Smooth and Rhythm dancers are all covered and welcome under our membership scheme. As ‘Custodians of the Sport’, we are resolute in unwaveringly upholding our commitment to representing you, the dancers.

We are thrilled to welcome all the Home Nations to our rapidly growing community.
