British DanceSport Association Launches UK’s Largest Dance Safe Register

The British DanceSport Association (BDSA) is proud to announce the launch of the BDSA Dance Safe Register, a major new initiative designed to support safeguarding, transparency and professionalism across the UK dance industry.
Launched on 1 September 2026 to coincide with the latest changes to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) regime, the Register provides parents, guardians, dancers and dance schools with an all-new resource to help promote safer participation and informed decision-making throughout the sector.
Containing 14,307 dance schools from across the United Kingdom and covering 85 different dance genres, the BDSA Dance Safe Register is the largest and most comprehensive database of UK dance schools assembled to date.
Commenting on the launch, a BDSA spokesperson said:
“The Dance Safe Register represents an important step forward in strengthening safeguarding across dance sport. By launching the register alongside the new DBS arrangements, we are providing the community with a practical tool to support safer participation and help build confidence among dancers, parents, clubs and organisers.”
The Register enables parents and guardians to make more informed choices when selecting a dance school by providing greater visibility of safeguarding and verification measures. Dancers can train with increased confidence, while teachers and school owners can showcase their commitment to professionalism, safeguarding and best practice.
Schools listed on the Register are displayed in one of three categories:
All Schools – Schools listed using publicly available information that have not yet claimed or verified their record.
Accredited – Schools that have successfully completed identity, safeguarding and disclosure checks.
Enhanced – Schools that have completed additional verification relating to teaching qualifications, professional or awarding body status, and safeguarding arrangements across their wider teaching team.
The BDSA encourages all dance schools to claim their records, update their information and begin the accreditation process to demonstrate their commitment to safe and professional dance education.
