‘I am more than just an athlete’: Psychological safety and negative coaching in aesthetic sports
Twenty elite athletes from dance, figure skating, and gymnastics were interviewed to understand their lived experiences of psychological safety and different coaching behaviours. This research addresses a critical gap in sport psychology literature and seeks to inform athletes, coaches, sporting organisations and policy makers on the importance of psychological safety in this unique sporting context.

Northumberland backs the National Safeguarding Framework for Extracurricular Activities
We are delighted to share the good news that Northumberland County Council has passed a motion in support of the National Safeguarding Framework for Extracurricular Activities.
Proposed by Cllr Caroline Ball and seconded by Cllr Dickinson, the motion passed by the councillors; however, two abstained. We’re grateful to councillors across the chamber who chose to put children, young people and vulnerable adults first.

Redcar and Cleveland Council Meeting Live Recording Voting on National Safeguarding Framework for Extracurricular Activities.
The cross-party motion — proposed by Liberal Democrat Councillor Karen King and seconded by Labour Councillor Ceri Cawley — passed unanimously at the meeting of the Full Council on 31st July 2025. The recording of this public meeting is now available to watch.

Representation at Kent County Council's Armed Forces Day Flag-Raising Ceremony
I was deeply honoured to represent the British DanceSport Association and the wider dance community at the Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony hosted by Kent County Council on Monday, 24 June 2025.


British Dance Sport Association Official Clarification on VAT Tribunal Ruling
Considering the considerable volume of discussion and, regrettably, a great deal of misinformation currently circulating across various social media platforms following yesterday’s VAT announcement, I feel it is both necessary and appropriate to issue this formal clarification on behalf of the British Dance Sport Association.


DANCE LESSONS AND DANCE COMPETITIONS FALL WITHIN THE SCOPE OF VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)
His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has now issued its findings following the First-tier Tax Tribunal, which was held a few weeks ago in Manchester. These findings are exceptionally concerning for the dance community and sport as a whole.
