I was deeply honoured to represent the British DanceSport Association and the wider dance community at the Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony hosted by Kent County Council on Monday, 24 June 2025. This solemn occasion, held outside County Hall in Maidstone, was led by the Chairman of Kent County Council, Councillor Richard Palmer, a former serviceman himself, who delivered a poignant address paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our Armed Forces.
The ceremony brought together a distinguished gathering of past and present service personnel, civic leaders, and community representatives. It served as a powerful reminder of the enduring commitment and resilience of our Armed Forces, and the importance of honouring their service.
Following the ceremony, I had the privilege of engaging in thoughtful conversations with fellow attendees over coffee. These discussions underscored the shared values of discipline, dedication, and community that unite the worlds of dance and military service.
The flag-raising ceremony stands as a universal symbol of respect and gratitude, honouring the service of British Armed Forces personnel, past, present, and future. It is a tradition that fosters unity and reflection, reminding us all of the sacrifices made to safeguard our freedoms.
As we continue to commemorate Armed Forces Day, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to supporting those who serve and have served our nation with distinction.
