Smooth
Smooth Dance is an elegant partner dance style known for its flowing movement, graceful lines, and expressive connection between dancers. It is often associated with American Smooth ballroom, which allows partners to dance both in closed hold and in more open positions.
The style may include dances such as Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz, each with its own rhythm, mood, and character. Waltz is smooth and sweeping, Tango is dramatic and controlled, Foxtrot is stylish and sophisticated, and Viennese Waltz is fast, graceful, and rotational.
Smooth Dance places strong emphasis on posture, balance, musicality, footwork, frame, and floorcraft. Dancers use travelling steps, turns, shaping, arm lines, and open choreography to create a polished and expressive performance.
It is commonly seen in competitions, showcases, social dancing, and stage performances. Smooth Dance combines technical skill with artistry, allowing dancers to move with elegance, confidence, and emotional expression while maintaining a strong partnership connection.

Amateur examinations at all levels can be taken with your NCDTA International dance teacher with in-person, online and video examinations now available.
