Sequence Dancing

Sequence Dancing is a social partner dance style where couples perform the same set pattern of steps at the same time, moving around the floor together in sequence. Unlike freestyle partner dancing, each routine follows a fixed arrangement, allowing everyone on the floor to dance in unison.

The style can include influences from ballroom, Latin American, old-time, and modern social dances, with rhythms such as Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Saunter, and Quickstep. Each sequence has its own timing, character, and flow.

Sequence Dancing places emphasis on timing, posture, footwork, partnership, floorcraft, and memory. Dancers need to learn the step patterns clearly and maintain awareness of other couples while travelling around the room.

It is commonly enjoyed at social dances, tea dances, dance clubs, competitions, and community events. Sequence Dancing is accessible, sociable, and elegant, offering dancers the chance to enjoy structured routines, music, movement, and connection with others.
