Salsa
Salsa is a lively and rhythmical partner dance known for its energy, musicality, fast footwork, and social connection. It developed from a blend of Afro-Caribbean and Latin American dance influences and is commonly danced to upbeat salsa music.
The style often features quick steps, turns, spins, hip action, arm styling, body movement, and partner patterns. Dancers usually move to a clear rhythm, with different styles such as Cuban Salsa, LA style, New York style, and Colombian style each bringing their own character, timing, and movement quality.
Salsa places strong emphasis on timing, coordination, lead and follow connection, confidence, and expression. It can be smooth and controlled, playful and social, or fast and showy depending on the music, setting, and dancers.
Salsa is commonly enjoyed in classes, clubs, social dance nights, competitions, showcases, and stage performances. It is an exciting and inclusive dance style that encourages rhythm, confidence, communication, and enjoyment through movement.
