Jazz
Jazz dance is a lively, expressive, and highly energetic style known for its strong technique, sharp movements, rhythm, and performance quality. It has roots in African American dance traditions and has developed through stage, theatre, film, and popular music.
Jazz routines often include kicks, leaps, turns, isolations, travelling steps, floorwork, and dynamic changes in direction and energy. The style can be bold and powerful, smooth and stylish, or playful and theatrical, depending on the music and choreography.
Dancers need good coordination, flexibility, strength, timing, and control. Musicality is especially important, as jazz often uses strong accents, syncopated rhythms, and expressive movement to match the energy of the music.
Jazz dance is commonly seen in musical theatre, competitions, showcases, music videos, and stage performances. It is a versatile and exciting style that encourages confidence, personality, precision, and strong stage presence.
