Ballet
Ballet is a highly disciplined and graceful dance style known for its precise technique, elegant lines, strength, control, and expressive storytelling. It forms the foundation for many other dance styles and is often recognised by its structured movements, turnout, pointed feet, lifted posture, and fluid use of the arms.
Ballet technique includes movements such as pliés, tendus, arabesques, pirouettes, jumps, balances, and travelling steps. Dancers train to develop flexibility, coordination, musicality, stamina, and body awareness, while maintaining a strong sense of poise and control.
There are different forms of ballet, including classical ballet, neoclassical ballet, and contemporary ballet. Classical ballet often follows traditional techniques and storytelling, while contemporary ballet may use more modern movement, expression, and staging.
Ballet can be performed as part of large productions, competitions, examinations, showcases, or professional theatre performances. It combines athletic ability with artistry, allowing dancers to communicate emotion, character, and narrative through movement. Although it can appear effortless on stage, ballet requires years of focused training, discipline, and dedication.
