The BDSA Sovereign League Regulations
Competitor Information
The BDSA Sovereign League is a national competitive structure governed by BDSA Rules and open exclusively to BDSA members. It provides a clear pathway for dancers across all age groups to compete, earn points, and progress towards international representation.
Age Categories
(As per BDSA Rules)

Juvenile III: Under 12 years

Junior II: 12 to 15 years

Youth II: 16 to 21 years

Amateur: 16 years and over

Senior 1: Over 35 years
All competitors must compete within the appropriate age category. Verification of age may be requested by event officials. Points are not carried over between age groups.
League Scoring System
Points are awarded based on final placements at each qualifying competition:

Points accumulate across the league season.

Competitors are not required to enter every competition. Final rankings are calculated based on participation in 75% of events.

In the event of a tie, the highest individual event placement will determine the ranking.
League Duration
The BDSA League runs from:
29 March 2026 to 5 November 2026
Final results will be available by Monday 9 November 2026, with all competitors notified by email.
International Representation
At the end of the league:

The top-ranking couple and top-ranking solo competitor will represent Great Britain at the
European Confederation of Dance Sports Championships
5 to 6 December 2026, Tallinn, Estonia -
BDSA will nominate one couple and one solo competitor.

A small bursary towards travel and accommodation will be provided.

Competitors must be eligible to represent Great Britain.

Promoter Information
League Scoring Process
Points are assigned based on final placements at each qualifying BDSA competition and accumulate across the league season.
The league structure ensures a fair and transparent ranking system, aligned with BDSA competition standards.
Competition Classifications
BDSA-approved competitions are categorised into tiers, each with specific requirements:

PQS events are directly organised by BDSA and follow full BDSA competition rules.

Other tiers allow flexibility, including family ticket discounts or free parent tickets.
Promoter and Event Requirements
1. Event Approval and Branding

All promotional materials must be submitted to BDSA for approval before distribution.

Approved events will be promoted via BDSA social media and the official website.

BDSA banners must be displayed throughout the competition.
2. Adjudication and Staffing

Adjudicators must hold a minimum Licentiate qualification and provide documentation to BDSA in advance.

All adjudicators must hold valid safeguarding checks, including DBS, PVG, police checks or equivalent.

Documentation must be submitted prior to the event or presented on the day.

All officials must uphold BDSA professional and ethical standards.
3. Compliance and Operations

All competitions must adhere fully to BDSA Rules and league structure.

Family ticket discounts must be offered.

Technical delivery, including music, timing and scrutineering, must meet BDSA standards of accuracy and impartiality.
4. Governance and Revisions
The British DanceSport Association reserves the right to:

Amend or update league regulations and classifications

Ensure alignment with international standards

Remove competitions from the league if requirements are not met
