Michele Verroken
Integrity Officer
Michele Verroken is the founding director of Sporting Integrity. Her unique approach is based on over thirty years of involvement as one of the world's top officials in the field of sport ethics. Formerly Director of Ethics and Anti-Doping at UK Sport, Michele designed and implemented current internationally accepted standards for doping control, results management, and education. Her expertise in policy implementation led to the UK achieving the first ISO 9000 certification for anti-doping in the world. Michele created the UK's Drug Information Database, education programmes, Independent Doping Control Officer training and a national anti-doping policy based on ISO certified standards. Michele has significant experience in anti-doping programmes at the national and international level.
Her efforts have earned her the recognition and support of some of the most powerful figures in world sport, and have helped to shape the fight against doping in sport internationally. Her expertise in developing anti-doping programmes has been sought by several countries, including: Ireland, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Since 2002, Michele has been secretary of the Commonwealth Games Federation Medical Commission, leading the coordination and delivery of the Games anti-doping programme including, TUE processes and results management, as well as the interface with medical services.
An accomplished writer, broadcaster and public speaker, Michele is a regular media commentator and is regularly employed by international and national sports organisations and businesses. She was retained as an expert adviser on ethics and anti-doping matters by the Independent Sports Review, co-chaired by Lord Moynihan and Kate Hoey MP, published in 2005. Professional golf has engaged Michele to advise on anti-doping policies and procedures, leading to the successful implementation of professional golf's anti-doping programme since 2008. She is now Anti-Doping Adviser and Administrator to the PGA European Tour, Ladies European Tour, The R&A and International Golf Federation, as well as several national golf bodies .
Recent additions to Sporting Integrity's portfolio include ESports and Mixed Martial Arts; Michele is a member of the Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) and leads the independent governance and integrity office for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
Michele is a qualified arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator, and a former teacher and lecturer in sports science and physical education. Michele has achieved international sporting honours in netball, team handball and korfball.
